Position Overview

The Senior, Client Accounting Services, working under the direction of the Client Accounting Service Senior Manager, plans, coordinates, and delivers client engagements efficiently, effectively, and accurately; develops and maintains strong client relationships; and supervises and mentors associate-level staff. The Senior, Client Accounting Services is expected to prioritize developing their leadership skills and growing their technical expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Engagement Delivery

  • Compiles, processes, and maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll records for multiple clients.

  • Prepares fully documented trial balances, manages payroll taxation, and handles sales and use taxation, including Transaction Privilege Tax.

  • Completes variance analysis of income statements, explains significant variations, and properly capitalizes improvements versus expensing repairs and maintenance.

  • Understands various bases for accounting and when to apply each and develops a detailed understanding of client systems.

  • Drafts effective client correspondence and reports for review by supervisors and managers.

  • Understands materiality, ensuring most effective use of time.

  • Consistently and appropriately communicates with partners, managers, and staff regarding engagement planning, workflow, and progress.

Practice Improvement and Team Support

  • Recommends and supports implementation of practice development initiatives, including new software implementation and process improvement—within the Client Accounting Services team and for clients—to improve and streamline workflow and delivery.

  • Participates in training of Client Accounting Services team members R&A personnel and assists in developing training programs and materials.

  • Identifies opportunities for additional client projects or engagements, communicates these opportunities to partners or managers, and presents to current or prospective clients.

  • Participates in networking opportunities to help grow R&A’s visibility in the community and grow revenues.

  • Provides ongoing feedback to staff and delegates work to associates in a supportive and constructive manner.

  • Provides recommendations on firm business and process improvements. Fosters and encourages the career growth of associates, shares credit for team accomplishments, and accomplishments and adopts a coaching attitude to assist less -experienced staff.

  • For team and firm efficiency, enters and releases time daily, and communicates with the front desk regarding out-of-office time due to client meetings, PTO, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn firm software and services.

  • Confidence to support R&A in business development activities.

  • Strong client support and relationship management abilities.

  • Excellent analytical, technical, time management, communication, active listening, collaboration, and quality management skills.

  • Knowledge of US GAAP, GAAS, and GAGAS rules and standards.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with accounting software is a plus.

  • Learns, understands, and demonstrates high ethical standards and firm values in all interactions and engagement delivery.

  • Indicates willingness and eagerness to take on challenging tasks when necessary.

  • Ability to work additional hours as needed and to travel up to 25 percent to client sites.

Experience Requirements

  • Three years of experience in client advisory services in a medium-to-large public accounting firm or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.

  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Certification preferred or to be obtained within the first six months of employment.
